Welcome home, Manuschka!
From being kept in a circus to the loving care of FOUR PAWS, Manuschka's journey has been extraordinary. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our dedicated teams - animal caretakers, sanctuary managers, rescue project leaders and many more - Manuschka has arrived at her final home at the FELIDA big cat sanctuary in the Netherlands. Her recovery journey began at the TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary in Germany, where our dedicated colleagues took temporary care of Manuschka and prepared her for the move to her final home at FELIDA. After a life of suffering in the circus, she can now simply be a lioness.
Manuschka´s Crate Training
Manuschka´s Journey Continues
Manuschka is a 5-year-old lioness who was voluntarily handed over to FOUR PAWS by a circus family in July. The German circus had decided to stop using big cats in its shows. Manuschka's first stop was our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary, where she was temporarily cared for and began her journey to a better life. Now that the construction of the new enclosures at the FELIDA big cat sanctuary has been completed, Manuschka can move to her permanent home.
Happy Birthday, Manuschka!
Happy birthday, Manuschka! Our newest member of the big cat family, former circus lioness Manuschka, is celebrating her 5th birthday in her new temporary, species-appropriate home at the TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary. Manuschka was voluntarily handed over into our care in mid-July. From now on, she will never be used for entertainment purposes again. We are delighted that she is adapting so quickly to her new surroundings and exploring new things.
A day in the life at TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary

TIERART is a sanctuary for rescued big cats and rehabilitation center for native wildlife in distress. More than 80 animals get released back into the wild once they are healed every year.
Happy Valentine´s Day!
Love is all around at our sanctuaries this Valentine’s Day! Our furry residents at the sanctuaries have been busy exploring some special treats, prepared with so much love by their dedicated caretakers. Apart from the tasty food that they enjoyed so much, they also received enrichment to explore and have fun with, while we had a blast watching them being so happy. Happy Valentine`s Day from all the fluffy inhabitants of FELIDA Big Sanctuary, LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary and TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary.
Charlota´s journey
Beautiful Charlota was a victim of the ruthless tiger trade. Watch her whole journey and how she finally reached her safe forever home, our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary. Thank you, for your support and for giving Charlota a new chance at life.
Charlota, victim of the ruthless tiger trade
The story of a brave tigress who escaped the #TigerTrade. Charlota's life took an extraordinary turn. Born in 2022, bred for commercial trade, her first days were filled with sadness. Separated from her mother too early, she was kept illegally by a private individual in the Czech Republic. But the authorities quickly intervened and confiscated Charlota. In January 2023, she found a temporary safe place at Hodonín Zoo. In July 2023, she began her journey to a new life at the TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary.
Playful Tikam
Tikam was about five months old when he came to TIERART. He was bought by a private person from a breeder in the Czech Republic and then illegally brought across the border to Germany and kept as a pet in an apartment. When the owner was reported to the authorities, he gave the puma to TIERART. From the beginning Tikam was very playful and full of energy. We love watching him explore the things the animal care team has made for him.
Happy Birthday, Sahib!
Tiger Sahib turns 16 years old! The former circus tiger came to our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary in July 2020, is celebrating his new milestone.
On this occasion, a lot of gifts and treats were prepared for him by his caretakers, which he loved exploring. We are very happy to see him doing so well, especially after the passing of his companion tigress Jill earlier this year.
Congratulations and many more wonderful years at TIERART, big boy!!!
New home for puma Tikam!
We are very happy for lovely Tikam as he was successfully relocated into his huge enclosure at TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary earlier this week.
All eyes were on Tikam, as he took the very first steps into his new home. He was very relaxed throughout the process and when he was released into his beautiful enclosure, he started immediately exploring. Within a short time, he started to play with a ball and scratched a wooden trunk to mark his “territory”. Apart from the extra space, Tikam now has at his disposal a lot of new climbing structures, 200 tons of sandstones and trees to climb or hide, a pool, and all this in a fence of more than seven meters hight.
All this will enrich his life and we cannot wait to see more of his new adventures in the coming days!
Happy Birthday, Varvara!
Tigress Varvara celebrates her 19th birthday today. The animal keepers have of course come up with a very special surprise for the occasion.
In 2003 Varvara was born in a circus in France and spent 12 years of her life in a small barred wagon. Since September 2015, she has been living in our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary and enjoying her well-deserved retirement. We are very proud that Varvara is still so lively and playful despite her advanced age and hope very much that she can spend many more wonderful years with us.
Happy Birthday, Varvara!!
Happy Valentine´s Day!
Love is all around at our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary!
Foxes, raccoons, and puma Tikam were happy to explore some special gifts, prepared with a lot of love from their dedicated caretakers. Apart from the tasty treats that they enjoy so much, they also received enrichments to explore and have fun with!
Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!
Tigress Varvara says THANK YOU!
The joy of a precious gift!
Varvara is having the time of her life and as you can see, she is very grateful for your donated fir trees! Every year our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary receives trees that have been used during the holiday season.
As the beloved supporters know by heart how much pleasure animals get from these trees.
More than 230 wild animals rescued!
It has been a very busy year for our onsite team at TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary. More than two hundred and thirty native wild animals were rescued during 2021. Around twenty wild cats, twenty four foxes, thirty stone martens, pine martens and polecats, 3 raccoons and many small animals such as hedgehogs, squirrels, dormice, and brown hares. This also includes a lot of various birds of prey and water birds.
After weeks of constant care, they have all become strong and were successfully released into remote forest areas. We wish them all good luck in their new adventures!
Happy Holidays from TIERART!
Cuteness overload at our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary. A lot of goodies to discover from the furry inhabitants and they couldn`t be happier! Tigers, racoons, sheep, foxes all got their favourite treats to enjoy, and we had a blast watching them being so excited and content.

Our furry friends across our sanctuaries have also been “busy” on this Halloween. Their dedicated caretakers prepared special enrichment with some of their favorite treats.
New enclosure for serval Kiano
Serval Kiano moved to a new enclosure at our TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary a few weeks ago. Kiano has been living at TIERART since April 2020. Before that, he was discovered while straying in the forest in the Rhein-Sieg district.

Fox cubs at TIERART
Since our puppy group has grown to 7 cubs from different litters. Between eating and sleeping we use the time to playfully practice hunting and fighting with the adopted siblings. This is very important for the socialization of the animals and essential for a successful later release.

Behind the scenes of TIERART
Roebuck Ruffy came to TIERART as a small fawn in 2019 after being found severely dehydrated. In 2020, Kalle was orphaned by a free-roaming dog when he was three days old. At TIERART, the two bucks met and became best friends.
Silver fox Mika and her snowman
This video of our beautiful silver fox Mika is the cutest thing you will see today! Mika only lives at our sanctuary Tierart in Germany since May this year, after her previous owner wanted to get rid of her and therefore decided to shoot her. Luckily Mika could be rescued just in time. Since her rescue, she has adapted very well to her new life and enjoys to spend her days with three other rescued foxes. But today, she only has eyes for her snowman! Watch the video till the end and we dare you not to laugh!
Bela and Sharuk in LIONSROCK
New beginnings can be scary – even for tigers... A year ago tiger siblings Bela and Sharuk arrived safely at our Big Cat Sanctuary LIONSROCK.
Retired circus tigers Jill and Sahib at TIERART
In July 2020, half-siblings Jill and Sahib moved into the TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary. After a German tamer lost all his engagements due to the Corona pandemic, he gave up the circus business. In search of a new home for his tigers, he turned to FOUR PAWS.
Behind the scenes at TIERART
This time we would like to show you everyday life at TIERART. Our colleagues Eva and Tim explain what their work at the sanctuary looks like and how they manage to successfully rehabilitate dozens of wild cats and foxes every year and release them back into the wild.
Update Tikam
Tikam's time in private care is now in the past and he can finally enjoy a species-appropriate life at the TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary. He always seems to be hungry, but who wouldn't be when you are constantly on the move? Tikam is a curious guy, very playful and explores his enclosures to the smallest corner. Read his story here.
Fox Jackson
The TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary has a new resident! Jackson, a male silver fox, was kept by a breeder in a small room with another female. FOUR PAWS rescues last Bulgarian circus tiger
In January 2015, the ban on keeping wild animals in circuses in Bulgaria came into force, now FOUR PAWS has rescued the last Bulgarian circus tiger. After a short negotiation, the owner and former tamer handed over 12-year-old Varvara to the international animal welfare organization. The tigress was immediately taken to FOUR PAWS' new TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary in Rhineland-Palatinate. Read Varvara's story here.
